What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. It helps the site remember things between page views. Some cookies come from us (first party) and some from services we use (third party). Similar technologies such as pixels and local storage are covered by this policy too.
Cookies we use
| Type | What it does | Set by | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Functional | Keep the site working: security checks, remembering a closed notice | Table Perch, Cloudflare | Session to 1 year |
| Analytics | Count visits and see which pages are read, in anonymized form | Google Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| Affiliate | Record that a purchase came from a link on this site | Amazon Associates | Typically 24 hours |
We do not use advertising cookies, remarketing pixels or social media tracking cookies. We do not run a newsletter, so there are no email tracking cookies.
Managing cookies
You can control cookies through your browser. Most browsers let you block all cookies, block third party cookies only, or delete cookies already stored. Look under Settings, Privacy or Preferences in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge.
Blocking functional cookies may stop some parts of the site from working. Blocking analytics or affiliate cookies will not affect your reading experience.
Opting out of analytics
Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics from collecting data on any site. Search for “Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on” to install it.
Your consent
Where the law requires it, we ask for consent before setting non-essential cookies. In other regions, continuing to use the site means you accept the cookies described here. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies in your browser.
Changes
We may update this policy as our tools change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
